Day 9
I have been planning to go back through MikesLessons and watch all the videos again. At this point the first few seemed to introductory to require a second watch, and then I got to video 4.
Video 4 is when Mike first introduced the kick drums, and though I thought I had a decent grasp I noticed an emphasis he made that I failed to meet:
“..make sure you can line up that kick drum with any hi-hat [eight-notes]“
Well I could line it up with most eight notes, but not easily, and switching totally destroyed my beat. So today I will focus on the kick drum.
I also finally watched a “lives lesson” and although far to advanced for me, it did introduce some fun tom-tom examples that give the music a tribal sound.
Today I plan to:
- kick drum to any hi-hat
- tom-tom “tribal groove”

Day 9 Summary
Practiced quite a bit with my bass drum, not sure i am any better though. Spent most my time tinkering with the tribal groove just to get away from the monotonousness rock groove sound.
