Day 8 – almost drumming a reasonable groove

Day 8

Anyone foolish or bored enough to read this site two days in a row knows that yesterday I worked on tossing sixteen notes into the existing rock beat.

i.e.:          1  e and – 2 – and – 3 e and – 4 – and -

Today I intend to continue that practice, and hopefully finish up the videos (8 and 9).

Today I plan to:

  • Watching Lessons  8,9 of MikesLessons – Beginners Pack
  • Continue Drum Roll practices (mostly during TV etc)
  • Rhythmic Scale and Rock Beat variations

Day 7 Details

  • Tool: MikesLessons.com – Beginners Pack, video 8
  • Cost: 14.95 (9 Lessons)
  • Time 2 hours
  • Sets: 1

Day 7 Summary

Wifey was working late tonight so I got a solid 2 hours of uninterrupted practice.  I got better (i think) with what I struggled so much with yesterday, and played with some fun fills.

Unfortunately videos 8 and 9 seem to be filler, some terminology and teasers for the live lessons.  SO I spent all the time recapping some of his previous videos, and just trying to feel some groove on the drum set.  I almost got something going a few times (of course not while I was taping, grr) but as soon as I though “hey that sounds decent..” kathump, I would drop a beat, or double drum or make some other silly mistake and completely lose whatever i had.

  • 1/16 notes in an 1/8 note count
  • Kick drum variations
  • Fills (including some fast “buzz” fills)

Day 7 Video

Ahh, its horrible, Im sorry!
